Campaign launch
Donation Campaign Pre-Launch Checklist for WordPress
Before announcing a fundraising campaign, test the full donation experience. A small issue in the form, payment settings or email confirmation can reduce trust and cost donations.
Check the campaign message
Read the donation page as if you were a first-time visitor. Is the goal clear? Is the need specific? Does the page explain how donations will be used?
If the message feels vague, improve the copy before driving traffic to the page.
Test the donation form
Submit the form with different donation amounts and required fields. Check that validation messages are clear and that the form works on desktop and mobile.
Pay special attention to custom amounts, privacy consent and any optional donor fields.
Verify payment methods
Test each payment method you plan to offer. For PayPal or card payments, use sandbox or test mode when available. For bank transfer, confirm that instructions are complete and easy to understand.
Make sure the donation status updates correctly in the admin area.
Review emails
Confirm that donor emails and admin notifications are sent correctly. Check the subject line, sender name, donation details and any next-step instructions.
If the email lands in spam, review your SMTP configuration and sender settings before launch.
Check thank you and failed donation pages
The successful donation page should reassure the donor and explain what happens next. The failed donation page should be calm, useful and include a way to try again or contact your team.
Do not leave donors on generic or confusing system pages after payment.
Confirm privacy and legal information
Make sure the donation page links to your privacy policy and includes any required consent wording. Avoid collecting unnecessary personal data.
If your organization has specific legal requirements, review them before publishing the campaign.
Prepare promotion links
Before sending emails or publishing social media posts, copy the final campaign URL and test it in a private browser window. Make sure the page is public and loads without admin access.
If you use tracking links, test those too. A broken link can waste the strongest moment of a launch.
